Powered by the Apple S1 chipset with a 520 MHz Cortex-A7 CPU and PowerVR SGX543 GPU, the Apple Watch 38mm delivers adequate performance for a first-generation device. While it feels underpowered by today's standards, it was capable of handling the watchOS 1.0 at launch, eventually supporting upgrades up to watchOS 4.3.2. The internal memory is limited to 8GB with 512MB RAM, sufficient for managing watchOS applications but restrictive compared to newer models.
