Under the hood, the Zenfone 4 was powered by an Intel Atom Z2520 chipset featuring a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor. Accompanied by a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU, the device offered reliable performance for basic applications and operations. Initially shipped with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, it was upgradable to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, ensuring slightly better software support and user experience. Although the 1GB RAM and internal storage options of either 4GB or 8GB were modest, a dedicated microSDXC slot allowed for expanded storage, vital for users needing additional space for apps and media.
