Driven by the Intel Atom Z2580 chipset with a dual-core 2.0 GHz CPU and PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU, the Zenfone 5 handled typical smartphone tasks effectively for its time. It was initially launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but was upgradable to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, extending its usability and access to newer apps. The phone offered three storage configurations, all paired with 2GB of RAM, which were 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB. Additionally, the presence of a dedicated microSDXC slot allowed users to expand storage as needed.
