In terms of features, the Ericsson GA 628 was designed with an emphasis on voice communication. The device lacked many modern amenities—there were no phone book storage capabilities, internet access, or multimedia messaging. Users could send and receive SMS text messages, which was revolutionary at the time. The alert system comprised simple monophonic ringtones, a far cry from today's customizable and polyphonic options. Connectivity was limited to GSM 900 networks without GPRS, EDGE, or any wireless features such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The absence of these added to the simplicity of the GA 628.
