Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Huawei P40 is powered by the Kirin 990 5G chipset, a 7 nm+ architecture that promises efficient performance and supports 5G connectivity. The octa-core CPU and Mali-G76 MP16 GPU are capable of handling multitasking and graphic-intensive applications with ease. The device comes with three RAM and storage configurations: 128GB with 6GB RAM, 128GB with 8GB RAM, and 256GB with 8GB RAM, utilizing UFS 3.0 technology for quick data transfer rates. Although the storage can be expanded via an NM (Nano Memory) card, it does share the SIM slot, which may be a consideration for some users.
The phone runs on Android 10 with EMUI 12, but notably lacks Google Play Services, which can be a significant drawback for users dependent on Google’s ecosystem. Nonetheless, Huawei has made substantial efforts to compensate with its own AppGallery and alternative app solutions.
