Performance and Software
Powered by the TI OMAP 850 chipset and a 200 MHz ARM926EJ-S CPU, the i-mate PDAL is modest in terms of power. The device comes with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM, which may seem minimal by today's standards but was adequate for running Windows Mobile applications efficiently at the time. Users could expand storage through a microSD card slot, although this required managing space judiciously due to size constraints of the era.
Windows Mobile 5.0 served its purpose well, offering tools like Pocket Office that were especially valuable for business users needing to handle documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on-the-go. The operating system integrates the mobile Pocket Internet Explorer for web browsing, though browser limitations meant only basic web pages rendered effectively.
