i-mate Ultimate 5150 Design and Display

Design and Display

The i-mate Ultimate 5150 features a classic PDA-style design with dimensions of 117 x 60.5 x 19.5 mm. This compact yet fairly thick build reflects the design priorities of its era, focused more on functionality than sleekness. The device was crafted to fit snugly in the hand and could easily be carried in pockets. Its body design echoes the business-centric ethos of the time, incorporating a resistive touchscreen that supports handwriting recognition—ideal for note-taking.

The 2.8-inch TFT screen offered a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, with a 4:3 aspect ratio, resulting in a crisp display by 2007 standards. Although the screen's color capability, at 256K (65K effective), wouldn't compare to today's vibrant displays, it effectively met the demands of its Windows Mobile interface. However, the screen-to-body ratio of just over 34% indicates relatively large bezels, common in smartphones from that period.
