Designed to function as a companion to Android phones, the LG G Watch relies on Bluetooth 4.0 for connectivity. This allows it to sync notifications and other data seamlessly with a paired Android device. Notably absent are features like WLAN, NFC, and USB connectivity, which were less critical for early smartwatches focused primarily on executing core functionalities. The lack of a built-in cellular network capability means it must be connected to a phone to reach its full potential.
