Under the hood, the Micromax A119 Canvas XL runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, powered by a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor. The system coupled with 1GB of RAM makes it suitable for basic tasks, though it might struggle with more demanding applications and multitasking; this was an acceptable trade-off for entry-level smartphones at the time. The 4GB of internal storage, of which only 2GB is available to the user, severely limits the number of apps and media that can be stored without utilizing a microSD card for additional storage through its dedicated slot.
