The Philips 290 came equipped with a single VGA rear camera, capable of capturing basic images and videos at 120p resolution. While not suited for capturing high-quality photographs, it served the purpose of casual photography, which was commensurate with user expectations in 2007. The absence of a selfie camera and advanced multimedia features such as an MP3 player and built-in radio reflected its focus on essential applications.
