Philips 588 Performance and Connectivity

Performance and Connectivity

Under the hood, the Philips 588 comes with 128MB of internal storage, quite reasonable for its time, primarily used for storing contacts, messages, and basic applications. Its phonebook holds up to 500 entries, complete with a photocall feature, offering utility in personalizing contact images. However, the absence of a memory card slot caps its storage, which can be limiting.

In terms of connectivity, the device supports GSM networks on 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. It provides basic GPRS capabilities classified as Class 10 but does not support EDGE. The absence of more modern connectivity options, like Bluetooth and WLAN, leaves Infrared as the sole wireless connectivity feature, reflecting the emerging transition phase of mobile connectivity. Lacking a 3.5mm jack and a loudspeaker, it restricts audio options primarily to downloadable ringtones and vibration alerts.
