Performance and Software
Initially available with Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) or Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), the Galaxy J3 (2016) can be upgraded to Android 7.1.1 (Nougat), which is appreciated for a budget device from that era. The European and international versions are powered by the Spreadtrum SC9830 chipset paired with a quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, while the USA variant uses the Exynos 3475 Quad chipset with a slightly less powerful 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7. Both models come with a Mali-400 or Mali-T720 GPU respectively. In terms of memory, options vary between 8GB with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB with 2GB RAM, both of which include a dedicated microSD slot for expansion.
