Performance and Software
At its core, the Galaxy S4 houses an Exynos 5410 Octa chipset with an octa-core CPU split between four 1.6 GHz Cortex-A15 cores for performance tasks and four 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 cores for energy efficiency. This configuration was fairly advanced in 2013, allowing the device to handle multitasking and demanding applications with relative ease. The PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU provided adequate support for gaming and graphic-intensive tasks.
Out of the box, the S4 ran on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz UI, and it was upgradable to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, which brought improved features and functionalities. TouchWiz UI offered additional Samsung-specific features, though some users found it heavier compared to the stock Android experience.
