Introduction
The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, announced in February 2011 and released in March of the same year, marked a unique entry in the smartphone market by trying to bridge the gap between gaming consoles and mobile phones. Promoted as the first ever PlayStation Certified device, it introduced physical gaming controls which endeared it to gamers who yearned for tactile feedback that touchscreen controls often failed to deliver. Although the device has since been discontinued, its innovative design and distinct place in mobile gaming history still command attention.
