Under the hood, the iPad ran on the Apple A4 chipset coupled with a 1.0 GHz Cortex-A8 CPU and PowerVR SGX535 GPU. While it seems modest by contemporary standards, this hardware was sufficient for handling the iOS 4 operating system, which was upgradable to iOS 5.1.1. The device was available in three internal storage variants—16GB, 32GB, and 64GB—all paired with 256MB of RAM. The lack of expandable storage via a card slot meant users had to manage their data storage wisely.
