Design and Display
True to BlackBerry’s design ethos at the time, the 9720 was compact and stylish. Its dimensions, 114 x 66 x 12 mm, offered a comfortable hand-held experience. Weighing just 120 grams, it was light without feeling insubstantial. The design incorporated a mini-SIM slot, staying consistent with the standard in smartphones during that period. A notable feature was the optical trackpad, a BlackBerry staple, which provided intuitive navigation and complemented the QWERTY keyboard for seamless use.
The device featured a 2.8-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels. This provided a pixel density of approximately 214 ppi, which, while not market-leading, was adequate for basic tasks and text readability. The display’s modest size and resolution were concessions made perhaps to keep costs down, but they aligned well with the device's straightforward functionality.
