Performance
Under the hood, the HTC Desire S is powered by the Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon S2 chipset, coupled with a 1.0 GHz Scorpion CPU and an Adreno 205 GPU. While this configuration was standard for mid-range phones at its time, it is evidently outdated by today's standards. The device includes 768MB of RAM and 1.1GB of internal storage. Though modest, its storage can be expanded via a microSDHC card slot, which was a favorable feature for users needing additional space. Initially running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it is upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC’s Sense UI 3. This ensured a user experience that was smooth and intuitive during the phone's peak usage period.
