Performance and Software
Running Android 10 out of the box, the Surface Duo offers an upgrade path to Android 12, ensuring it remains competitive with newer devices in terms of software features and security updates. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, which, although not the latest by 2023 standards, was top-of-the-line at the time of its release. The octa-core CPU, combined with the Adreno 640 GPU, provides robust performance capable of handling everyday tasks and more intensive applications. With either 128GB or 256GB of non-expandable internal storage paired with 6GB of RAM, the Surface Duo handles multitasking efficiently, though the lack of a microSD slot for expandable storage might be limiting for power users. The software has been optimized to take advantage of the dual-screen setup, with features that enable dragging and dropping content between screens and tailored UX enhancements for specific apps.
