Powered by a 600 MHz Cortex-A8 processor and equipped with a PowerVR SGX535 GPU, the 3GS was designed to deliver a faster user experience than its counterparts. Although these specifications seem modest today, they were instrumental in allowing the device to run applications more smoothly at that time. With initial iOS 3 operating system support, the device was upgradable to iOS 6.1.6, which provided extended functionality and improved security. The RAM stood at 256MB, which, coupled with internal storage options of 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB, dictated the depth of usage potential.
