Performance and Software
Under the hood, the iPhone 3G was powered by a 412 MHz ARM 11 CPU and a PowerVR MBX GPU, paired with 128MB of RAM. While modest by today's standards, these specifications were adequate for the iOS 2 platform initially and allowed for an upgrade to iOS 4.2.1. The phone facilitated basic multitasking and operation of iOS's ecosystem apps efficiently. However, users had to adjust expectations around gaming and high-intensity applications, which were limited by the hardware capabilities.
